Dear Comrades:
On behalf of the Central
Committee of the Communist Party of Canada, we send you warm fraternal
greetings and best wishes for a productive and successful 21st
Congress of KKE this month.
Your congress takes place at
a very dangerous and complicated moment.
Global pandemic, deep global economic crisis, the growing danger of new
imperialist aggression and wars, and catastrophic climate change all threaten
humanity, and make our collective struggle for fundamental social change and
socialism increasingly urgent.
The pandemic in particular
has exposed the yawning gulf between people’s needs and corporate greed. The
interests of the working people to secure vaccines and healthcare, jobs, incomes,
social security and peace are dwarfed by the enormous power of the
transnational corporations and their insatiable drive to increase profits and
the rate of profit over all else.
The pandemic has also
exposed the toothlessness of social democracy in the struggle for a people’s
recovery from capitalist crisis, and the calamity of reformism and class
collaboration in the labour movement. The fight for a class-oriented trade union
movement is central to the struggle to unite the working class and move the
struggle from the defensive to the offensive.
But the people are fighting,
even if some of their leaders are not.
Indigenous Peoples, the Black community, Muslims, women, youth,
students, intellectuals, farmers and workers are fighting for their rights, and
for the fundamental change that will give them a better life and that
capitalism cannot deliver.
In Canada, working people
and youth are increasingly disillusioned with capitalism, with some moving to
far-right and fascist movements and parties that lay blame on immigrants, racialized
peoples, women, organized labour and “communists”. But a majority
are searching for a way forward, with many young and younger people looking at
socialism, and the best of them are coming to the Communist Party.
We remember the wise words of the KKE some years ago, describing the situation many progressive workers find themselves in, of being caught in a tangled spider web of reformist ideology, from which they find it difficult to escape. That is the job of Communists: to bring scientific socialism to the working-class movement, to the youth and students, to women, immigrants and racialized peoples, to help them extricate themselves from the sticky web of capitalist, reformist and far-right ideology. Today there is a new receptivity to socialist ideas and to Communist parties that is partly the result of the changing objective conditions, but also the result of the principled and consistent work of the Communist Parties through some very difficult times.
Dear Comrades,
We want to recognize the enormous
contribution that the KKE has made to the international Communist and Workers’
movement over the last 30 years, to restore unity, cooperation and strength through
one of the most difficult periods in the more than 100-year history of the world
Communist movement. The annual meetings
of the Solidnet parties, and other initiatives taken by KKE, to facilitate this
process with great care and attention, will always be remembered by us with
gratitude and appreciation.
We wish you every success at this 21st Congress.
