Dear comrades,

Although we cannot be physically together on this important day due to the coronavirus pandemic, we are sending you the most sincere greetings of the communists of Turkey.

In the past year and a half, the capitalist class has upgraded its attack against the workers, using the pandemic as an excuse. The pandemic, which emerged and could not be avoided in the context of capitalism, resulted in not only millions of cases, hundreds of thousands of deaths, but also huge rates of unemployment, families who cannot earn a living, young people who cannot see their future, an immense lack of access to education, increasing violence against women and bullying. The rates of exploitation have maximized. By means of quarantines and curfews, the dominant class have found an unprecedented opportunity to silence the people and their political representatives.

It is under these conditions that the 21st Congress of the KKE will take place. We congratulate our comrades who persevere in the political struggle and all its commitments, no matter how difficult the conditions are. On this occasion, we commemorate once again our comrades Vera Nikolaidou and Kostas Pateras, whom we lost in the past year, and other dear comrades and friends whose names we cannot count.

Comrades,

Your congress is also taking place in the context of a deepening hegemony crisis within the imperialist system. The cards are being reshuffled within the imperialist hierarchy and we are seeing serious oscillations in the USA, Europe, Latin America, Asia/Pacific, and of course, in our region.

Peoples of the two countries have nothing to gain from the international competition or exchanges between the Turkish and Greek bourgeoisie. It is only the capitalist class who will profit from the provoked enmity of two peoples who share a common history, geography and culture, based on nationalism, religious reaction and racism. No positive outcome should be expected on behalf of our peoples from the moves made with an expansionist approach or from the race to better serve the US-EU imperialism in the region. Greater militarization on both sides of the Aegean Sea, more NATO troops, more military bases, more public resources and lands sold to imperialist countries… All of these are dangerous developments and are against our interests.

While struggling against these developments in our respective countries, we attach great significance to the deep-rooted friendship between our parties, just as you have stated in your Congress reports. This friendship expresses not only a unity in emotions and ideals, but also a solidarity that has proven itself in many concrete actions such as the international communist and workers' parties meeting we co-organized in Izmir in 2019. Even more importantly, KKE and TKP cadres have been sharing increasingly common experiences in the struggle against the bourgeois class, in working and producing together. This is a solid and exemplary friendship not only for the two parties, but also for the international communist movement. Moreover, we are noting that our region constitutes a weak link in the imperialist order. The cooperation and vanguardism of KKE and TKP will be decisive in a class-based uprising that could take place in this part of the world. This puts a great responsibility on our shoulders. The understanding of internationalism for both parties has been worked through and refined over the past years. In this regard, we see your 21st Congress as an important milestone for our joint preparations.

Dear comrades,

The cadre policy, the politicization of new members, the problems that need to be overcome regarding intra-party communication channels and organizational issues are extremely critical topics for all communist parties struggling today with the aim of socialist revolution. No matter how theoretically comprehensive analyses and accurate determinations are made, they will be doomed to wither away unless they become widespread among the workers. Unless communist ideas are disseminated and embraced by masses, a greater number of workers identify themselves saying "I am a communist" and radically change their way of living, we will have no chance of success. Together with organizing our neighbourhoods and external circles, internal political organization is a never-ending task. We appreciate your openly and precisely sharing the problems you encountered in your congress texts. This openness and realistic manner in the handling of the problems is also an indication of the self-confidence that has been accumulated in more than a hundred years of struggle. We have full confidence that the noted problems encountered in daily struggle will be overcome in the upcoming period with dynamic and creative interventions.

We would like to send a message to the friends of KKE who participate or follow your congress, too: We ask them to look around, they will see no other political party or organization in your country that has the courage to discuss its internal issues with this openness. No other party aims for each of its members to advance to become a strong, critical, developed political actor. As long as politics consists of decisions made by others on our behalf, the emancipation of the working people will remain as a far-fetched dream. We invite you as of today to take your place in the ranks of the party of the working class.
Dear sisters and brothers,

The slogan of the 21st Congress of KKE is the concise yet complete expression of what a communist party should be: The Communist Party is the mind, heart and organizer of workers’-peoples’ struggle for socialism. We convey our best wishes of success to all militants of KKE for a STRONG KKE.

Long live the Communist Party of Greece!

Long live socialism and revolution!

Long live our joint struggle!
