Greeting from the Portuguese Communist Party
to the 21st Congress of the Communist Party of Greece
Dear comrades,
The Portuguese Communist Party conveys to the 21st Congress of the Communist Party of Greece its greetings and wishes of success in its proceedings in the interests of the workers and people of Greece, of the struggle for social progress, peace and socialism.
In doing so, we bear in mind the traditions of struggle of the Greek communists in defence of the interests of the working class, of all the workers and people of Greece, the heavy sacrifices in the resistance against fascism and imperialist aggression, their role in the struggle against the dictatorship, for freedom and democracy, as well as the relations of friendship and mutual solidarity between both our two parties that were forged in the history of common struggle and that we wish to safeguard respecting the principles of independence and mutual respect enshrined in the international communist and revolutionary movement.
Your Congress takes place in an international situation of great instability and uncertainty, marked by the deepening of the structural crisis of capitalism and by a violent exploitative and aggressive onslaught by imperialism, led by the USA. A situation in which, all over the world, the resistance and struggle of workers and peoples continues and in which great dangers of social and civilisational regression coexist with great potential for progressive and revolutionary development – potential whose materialisation goes through, in our opinion, the strengthening of communist and revolutionary parties and their internationalist cooperation.
It is with this demanding vision, but at the same time confident, that in Portugal we are celebrating the Centenary of the PCP, intervening to strengthen the Party and fighting for a break with decades of rightwing policies and for a patriotic and left-wing alternative inserted in the struggle for the implementation of our programme «An Advanced Democracy - The April Values in the Future of Portugal», for socialism.
